Surfing

Your retreat unfolds in Bali, one of the best-known surfing destinations in the world. We are based in Padang Padang, with a range of waves within close reach, from gentle, beginner-friendly water at Baby Padang to the more demanding breaks Uluwatu is famous for. Whichever level you surf at, there is a wave nearby to suit you.

Surfing sits at the centre of the retreat programme. The week is structured around it, so your days move between surfing, yoga, wellness, meditation, and fitness activities at a comfortable, unhurried pace. We plan each day around the best surfing conditions available during your stay.

We provide the knowledge and equipment needed to get in the water, with a wide range of surfboards to suit different surfers, and a genuine depth of local knowledge that we are happy to share.

A well-placed base for surfing

Bali sees fairly consistent surf year-round, and our location puts a good spread of breaks within easy reach.

From beginner-friendly water close by to more challenging waves a short ride away, there is a reasonable spread of options to match most levels.

It means you can surf regularly during the week without spending much of the day getting to and from the water.

A structured surfing programme

Surfing is built into a wider programme designed to run efficiently, rather than treated as a stand-alone activity.

Sessions in the water sit alongside yoga and wellness activities, with the day organised so neither feels rushed.

We plan the daily schedule around the best surfing conditions on offer, so sessions tend to land at the right time of day rather than a fixed slot regardless of conditions.

Local instructors

Our surf team has years of experience and a genuine, local understanding of Bali’s waves.

Equipment is taken care of too: a wide range of surfboards is available, suited to different surfers and skill levels, so there is no need to bring or hire your own.

Between the coaching and the equipment, most of what you need to get in the water and improve is already taken care of.

Built around your progress

Instruction is tailored to where you are, whether that is a first time standing up or refining an existing technique.

Daily photos and videos of your sessions are part of the week, useful for spotting what to work on, and good to look back on afterwards.

Beginners build the core skills, and more experienced surfers get focused feedback to refine technique, with our coaches adjusting the approach to suit.

Waves for every level

Padang Padang itself is an easy, beginner-friendly wave with a gentle channel, well suited to learning the basics safely.

For intermediate surfers after longer rides, Toro Toro’s long, playful right-hand reef break is well worth the trip.

For more advanced surfers, Uluwatu stands out for its consistently high-quality waves, the kind that put this stretch of coast on the surfing map.

Wherever you are starting from, the retreat gives you easy access to a good range of waves nearby. For a full rundown of the breaks and what suits which level, see our guide to the best surf spots in Uluwatu for every level.

Richie, our head surf instructor, has deep roots in the local surf community. Growing up near Bingin, his favourite wave, he has been in the water from an early age. When not at the beach, he devotes time to cultural ceremonies and tending to his family land. Richie admires surfers like Kelly Slater and Luke Egan.

Randy

Randy Instructor

Having grown up in a family of fishermen in Kuta, Randy was taught to surf at an early age by his father. At the age of 16, he won an international RipCurl Grom Search surfing contest in Canggu, and still surfs professionally to this day. Passionate about coaching, he enjoys passing on his inherited ocean knowledge during lessons. His favourite waves are Racetrack at Uluwatu and Desert Point in Lombok. In his free time, Randy enjoys fishing and teaching his young son to surf.
