Markus Davies

Retreat Leader

Our retreat leader Markus Davies (ERYT500) takes nonsense seriously.

As a decades-long yoga teacher/practitioner and dedicated surfer, he has developed a unique approach to teaching that explores the relationship between self-discipline and play.

Having explored a wide variety of yoga and movement systems, Markus offers a style all his own which encourages self-exploration and a willingness to ‘colour outside the lines’.

Inspired by nature in all its forms, Markus considers the ocean his primary teacher — drawing from it a profound understanding of the human condition.

Markus has led retreats and training across the globe instilling a deep sense of self-trust and freedom in his students. Classes with Markus will leave you feeling invigorated, empowered and more deeply connected to the world within and around you.

Whitney Olsen

Our retreat director and resident artist, Whitney Olsen, has been doing yoga for over 20 years.

Starting as young as nine, she used hatha yoga as a source of self discipline that challenged focus to produce balance, stamina, and strength. She has continued her practice to this day and uses yoga as a form of physical therapy as well as a source of inspiration for her work.

Whitney, also known as Bloom, is a professional artist who spent much of her career working with glass, painting, collage and other mixed media. Heavily influenced by nature and the divine, Bloom sees the potential in all. She finds the qualities of light to be a constant lure. As something we can’t live without, it is the quintessential metaphor for life.

Like a moth to the flame, she loves the intangibility, the necessity, and resonance it has with crystalline materials such as glass or water. Whitney is constantly thinking of new ways to play with this material and share her passion for creating.

Hoping to use creativity as a source of therapy for retreat goers and residents at camp, Whitney is offering artist workshops to share the love and refresh the way we see and experience the world.
